Police in Rukiga District are holding two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a coffee farmer whose remains were secretly buried across the border in Rwanda.
The deceased, identified as Milton Bagambira alias Obote, 62, a resident of Nyakisa Village in Kashekye Parish, Kamwezi Sub-county, reportedly went to tend his banana and coffee plantation in Rwenzaza Village on Tuesday morning around 7:00 AM.
According to police, upon arrival at his farm, Bagambira found two men—James Kiromba and Denis Beinomugisha alias Murefu, both residents of the same area—stealing his coffee.
In a violent confrontation, the duo, allegedly armed with sharp objects, attacked Bagambira and inflicted severe injuries to his head and buttocks, killing him on the spot. They then mutilated his body, cutting off both arms and legs and plucking out his eyes, before packing the dismembered remains into a sack and smuggling them across the border into Rwanda for burial.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the arrest of the suspects, noting that intelligence-led operations led to their capture.
“After their arrest, the suspects revealed that the victim’s body parts had been buried in Rwanda. Through cross-border security coordination, the remains were retrieved and returned to Uganda,” Maate said.
The body parts were transported to Mparo Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the suspects are being detained at Rukiga Police Station as investigations continue.
