Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has appealed to all Ugandans to fully embrace the ongoing National ID mass renewal and enrolment exercise, describing it as a critical milestone in the country’s efforts to ensure legal identity for all.

Speaking shortly after renewing his own National ID at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Headquarters in Old Kampala Wednesday, the Mufti praised the efficiency and professionalism of the process, which he said took him less than six minutes to complete, thanks to the use of a pre-registration application ID.

“I appeal to all Ugandans, regardless of religion, age, or background, to come out in large numbers and participate in this exercise,” Sheikh Mubaje said, emphasizing that possessing a National ID is vital for accessing government services and participating in national development programs.

He commended the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) for deploying a robust and advanced digital system, highlighting the new biometric technology that captures fingerprints, the iris, and digital signatures, significantly reducing the risk of identity forgery.

The Mufti was particularly impressed by the user-friendly pre-registration portal, https://prereg.nsis.nira.go.ug/pre-registration-ui/#/eng, which allows applicants to complete initial steps online before proceeding to enrollment centers.

The ongoing mass registration campaign, spearheaded by NIRA, is being rolled out at the parish level across the country from Monday to Saturday. Special arrangements have also been made to accommodate vulnerable groups, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, and expectant mothers.

Sheikh Mubaje called on religious leaders, civil society actors, and local authorities to support awareness campaigns, ensuring no eligible Ugandan is left behind in this nationwide exercise.
