Government Deploys Digital Mobile X-Ray Machine to Boost TB Fight in Kabale

Local NewsGovernment Deploys Digital Mobile X-Ray Machine to Boost TB Fight in Kabale

The government, through the Ministry of Health, has enhanced the fight against tuberculosis (TB) by deploying a digital mobile X-ray machine worth UGX 350 million in Kabale District.

Raymond Byaruhanga, the Senior Technical Advisor in the Infectious Disease Department at the Ministry of Health, said the digital equipment offers faster and more efficient diagnosis compared to conventional X-ray machines. Unlike traditional models that rely on ordinary film, the digital X-ray produces images within 30 seconds and can detect TB even during its incubation period.

According to Alfred Besigensi, the Kabale District Health Educator, the equipment has been stationed at Rubaya Health Centre IV in Ryakarimira Town Council, Ndorwa West County. Besigensi explained that the machine uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to detect TB in a short time. He added that its advanced design allows portability, as it can operate on rechargeable batteries, eliminating sole dependence on hydroelectric power.

Local leaders, including Ryakarimira Town Council LC3 Chairperson Enock Kazooba and Ndorwa West MP David Bahati—who also serves as Minister of State for Trade—welcomed the initiative. They noted that the new equipment will enable residents to access timely testing and treatment.

Since last year, Kabale District has recorded eight cases of tuberculosis, according to statistics from the district health department.
