Bank of Africa-Uganda (BOAUG) has unveiled its latest digital innovation — the “Appsolutely Easy” campaign — allowing Ugandans to open bank accounts remotely through the BOA Wallet App without setting foot in a banking hall.
The campaign, which primarily targets youth, first-time account holders and tech-savvy customers, aims to leverage Uganda’s growing mobile penetration and shift towards a digital-first lifestyle. According to the GSMA Mobile Economy Sub-Saharan Africa 2024 report, smartphone usage in Uganda is expected to exceed 80% by 2025.
“With the BOA Wallet, we are removing traditional barriers to financial inclusion,” said Arthur Isiko, Managing Director of BOA-Uganda. “Now, anyone can open a fully functional bank account in minutes — no paperwork, no queues, no delays. This innovation is part of our broader strategy to make banking truly accessible to everyone, especially the younger, digitally driven generation,” he added.
Beyond instant account opening, the BOA Wallet offers a wide range of digital services. Customers can use BOA Pay to make secure payments to merchants and service providers. The app also facilitates bill payments for utilities, airtime, and other essential services. Additionally, it allows users to save directly through the platform and earn competitive interest rates on their deposits.
The mobile application is tailored for convenience and security, featuring real-time transaction alerts and an intuitive user interface, ensuring that customers can access and manage their finances anytime, anywhere.
BOAUG says the initiative reflects its long-term commitment to financial empowerment, especially among underserved populations and mobile-first customers.
Licensed and regulated by the Bank of Uganda, BOAUG operates 32 branches, 33 ATMs, and a network of over 750 bank agents across the country. It is part of the BMCE Group — a Casablanca-headquartered financial conglomerate with operations in 31 countries, including 18 in Africa
