Local NewsMuseveni Warns MPs Against ‘Political Corruption’ and Lavish Lifestyles

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered elected leaders across the country to stop what he termed as “political corruption” manifested in living lavish lifestyles and funding initiatives beyond their means.

Speaking during the national budget reading at Kololo Independence Grounds, Museveni expressed concern that some Members of Parliament have plunged themselves into debt and corruption in a bid to impress voters—an act he says is not only unsustainable but also outside their mandate.

“Some of these MPs take loans or misuse public resources to fund things that are supposed to be handled by government,” Museveni said. “This must stop immediately.”

He emphasized that development interventions such as infrastructure, health, and education are the sole responsibility of government, cautioning MPs against overstepping their roles and stressing themselves unnecessarily.

Museveni also warned against politicians engaging in frequent fundraising activities, suggesting these often raise questions about the sources of their funds.

He urged voters to become more vigilant and interrogate the origins of wealth displayed by their leaders. “You must ask: where is this money coming from? Is it clean?” he posed.
