Three people have been arrested for questioning after a man who went missing shortly after celebrating the victory of a National Resistance Movement (NRM) village chairman in Kabale District was found killed.
Silivano Bikorwomuhangi, aged in his 60s and a resident of Bugo Village, Musamba Parish, Rubaya Sub-county, went missing on Tuesday night shortly after celebrating Wilber Turyazayo’s victory as the LC1 chairman (flag bearer) for Bugo Village. Turyazayo defeated Henry Tumwijukye, who is a close relative of Bikorwomuhangi.
During the celebrations, Tumwijukye and his supporters reportedly accused Bikorwomuhangi of refusing to vote for Tumwijukye despite their close family ties.
Bikorwomuhangi did not return home that night. His body was later found on Wednesday at around 7 PM, lying along a footpath near his second wife’s home.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying three suspects are currently detained at Kabale Police Station to assist with investigations.
However, Maate declined to reveal the identities of the suspects, citing concerns that it might jeopardize ongoing investigations.
