Wince in Pain as This 911 Turbo Slams Into a Wall at a Drag Race

Science and TechnologyAutoWince in Pain as This 911 Turbo Slams Into a Wall at a Drag Race

Drag racing might seem simple, but there’s a lot more skill involved than meets the eye. That’s doubly true if the surface is slippery and the car in question has a lot of power. The driver of a Porsche 911 Turbo found that out the hard way after losing control and smashing into a wall during a recent drag event in the Netherlands.

Auto Madness 2025, held at the TT Circuit Assen last weekend, hosted a collection of high-powered sports cars, using the front straight as a makeshift drag strip. The 911 Turbo, a fairly new 992-generation Cabriolet in a sinister all-black color scheme, lines up against a Brabus 800—a highly modified, 789-horsepower version of the Mercedes-AMG E63.

The Porsche doesn’t get off to a great start, spinning up its rear tires in the rain. The Mercedes takes off, but the driver of the 911 never really regains full control, eventually veering right and crunching its front quarter into the wall. The pop-up roll bars deploy, but thankfully, the car stays on all four wheels before coming to a stop.

The driver of the 911 gets out of the car under his own power, seemingly uninjured. The car, unfortunately, is a bit worse for wear. The front right quarter is trashed, as is a good portion of the right rear section. The suspension likely needs a ton of attention, and considering the speed of the impact, we’re sure the frame is tweaked.

An expensive lesson, then. Our advice? Maybe keep traction control on for situations like this. Traction systems are seamless in modern performance cars, so it’s not like the car would’ve performed poorly in this situation. Now the driver knows for next time.
